FFWCT Now Offering AFFL-Style Divisions at State and National Championships
We are happy to announce due to popular demand that we will be offering AFFL-style 7v7 Non-Contact divisions at many of our State and National Championships starting with Battle Erie on October 13th! These divisions will use rules based off the AFFL rulebook and will give players a chance to prepare their
team for the Spring for the start of the next round of Regional Tournaments hosted by the AFFL for a shot at winning $1,000,000. These divisions we’re hosting are not official AFFL qualifiers, just an opportunity to get your team ready and accustomed to the rules but will still earn bids and points just like other divisions towards Nationals and Worlds.
For the Battle Orlando National Championships, we will be limiting the number of total participating teams in the division to 16 teams, 8 will play in the morning block, 8 in the afternoon, in a straight single elimination style bracket WITHOUT pool play to simulate the same environment that the AFFL held at their regionals last Spring. Entry price will be reduced to $250 for the division, and the championship game will be played Saturday night after all other styles have ended so as to not conflict with any other formats.
For those flag football players living under a rock for the last year, the AFFL stormed onto the scene last year with a unique concept offering the flag football world a chance to compete against former professional athletes for a million dollar purse awarded to the champion. Games were nationally televised on the NFL Network and most all of the “Joes” were players and teams that we all are accustomed to seeing at our National and World Championships. They got to play against the likes of Michael Vick, Seneca Wallace, Jhavid Best, Nate Robinson, Carlos Boozer, Jacoby Jones, Chad Ochocinco and more. Fighting Cancer, who has dominated the flag football world for a long time, ultimately beat the Dallas based TMT squad to advance to the championship and finished off the pros to take home the $1,000,000 prize, setting the stage for the second year to see explosive growth now that the players have seen what’s at stake first hand!
