DETAILS & FAQ’s

Divisions Offered

Below are the different divisions we offer for many of our styles along with who is expected to participate in each. You may only play in ONE of the PRO/Comp/Rec divisions, but may also play in an O35 division.

PRO

The top division with teams who are used to competing at the National and International level, featuring top cash prizes and the best athletes in the world. Points and bids are awarded to this division.

COMPETITIVE

This division is for teams who may be top teams in their area and very experienced with top athletes, but no National experience or missing some key contributors to make a PRO run. Points and bids are awarded to this division.

RECREATIONAL

This division is for teams who are possibly experienced and still competitive, but newer as a team or lacking the top athletes to push the top divisions. Points and bids are awarded to this division.

O35

Our division for players 35 years of age or older. Age cutoff is the first date of tournament play, so if you are not 35 by that day you are not eligible to play in this division. All players MUST have a valid ID on them throughout the event to verify age in the event of a protest. Points and bids are awarded to this division.

Draft Seeding

Pool Play Seeding is based on when you select your first game on media night during the draft party. All teams with 5 or more teams in their division will battle to select their placement on the schedule, where you’ll have a say in who you play, what time and on what field. Captains will select which seed they want on the schedule in reverse order of their Battle™ Points ranking, and you can take any spot on the board, bumping out another team if desired, who would be forced to take an open spot.

HOW IT WORKS

Team A has the least Battle Points and selects first, and is on the clock (1 minute to decide) . They select the 5th seed on the schedule so they can start at a later time. Team B is up next, and selects the 1st seed to avoid being in the same pool as Team A. Team C is up next, and decides they want to bump Team A out of their spot and steals the 5th seed. Team A then is forced to take an open spot on the board, and selects the 2nd seed place themselves in the same pool as Team B who they think they matchup well against. This continues all the way through the draft until the last 3 teams are left. The only rule exception is that if any of the top 3 teams get bumped out of their spot, they are allowed to bump again. So if Team Z has the most points and is the last to draft and bumps Team X out of their spot who was the 2nd or 3rd highest points, Team X would be allowed to bump another team out so they’re not stuck with the only open spot on the board having earned a top 3 draft position. The team they bump would have to take the last open spot on the board, and the draft would be complete! It is a fun way to select your pool play positions and gives each team some input on when, where and who they play!

Pool Play & Double Elimination

8v8 Contact Men’s PRO, Competitive and O35 will be double elimination
We do pool play for all other styles, but with a twist to make sure pool play matters and every game counts. Click here for more information on how and why we use pool play for our major tournaments.

Schedule Blocks

For the divisions that are pool play, we’re able to do schedule blocks so you’re guaranteed to be able to play in at least 2 styles, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. You can still play in multiple styles that may overlap, but we cannot guarantee anything and will not be accommodating any schedule requests.

However, a player CANNOT play on multiple rosters in the same format (i.e. 5v5 Contact PRO and 5v5 Contact Competitive). You CAN play in multiple formats though (i.e. 5v5 Contact PRO and 4v4 Non-Contact PRO).

Guaranteed Games

2 game guarantee – double elimination for 8v8 Contact Men’s PRO, Competitive and O35
3 game guarantee – 3 pool play games on Friday & Saturday plus single elimination bracket on Sunday for top teams in each division of 7v7 Screen, 8v8 Coed, 8v8 Contact Women’s and Men’s Rec & 9v9 Ineligible formats.
4 game guarantee – 4 pool play games on Friday & Saturday plus single elimination bracket on Sunday for top teams in each division of 4v4 & 5v5 formats.

Playoffs

The number of teams that make playoffs will be determined solely by the number of teams in each pool. NOTE that this is a slight change from previous events, where we would take the top teams across all divisions, and now it is based on your pool performance specifically. The breakdown is as follows:

3-4 teams in pool = 2 Top Teams from that pool make Playoffs
5-6 teams in pool = 3 Top Teams from that pool make Playoffs
7-8 teams in pool = 4 Top Teams from that pool make Playoffs
9-10 teams in pool = 5 Top Teams from that pool make Playoffs

After you finish all of your pool play games, playoffs brackets/seeds will be determined by factors IN THIS ORDER

  1. Overall Record (2 points for a win, 1 points for a tie, 0 points for a loss)
  2. Most Wins
  3. Head to Head (ONLY applies if EVERY team with the same record all played the same schedule and opponents)
  4. Point Differential
  5. Points Against
  6. Points Scored
  7. Battle Points
  8. Registration Date
Prizes

Trophies, Cash Prizes (most divisions), 5X Battle Points, MVP Awards, Medals, Championship Rings, and Full Paid Bid to use at your choice of one of our 2020 National Championships (East Coast, Gulf Coast or West Coast) if 10 or more teams. If 9 teams or less will get a 1/2 Bid

Flags

ALL TEAMS will use Sonic Flag-a-Tag flags for all 4v4, 5v5, 8v8 Screen and 9v9 divisions (mushroom flags and Shruumz ARE allowed in 4/5/7/8man screen styles). Triple Threat flags will be used in all 8v8 Contact formats. 7v7 men’s and women’s formats may choose to wear either sonic or triple threat variety flags, but the entire team must choose the same type and cannot change once the game starts.

ALL TEAMS must provide their own flags, you can purchase them on-site as well but they will not be provided.

Rules
Paid Bids

If you earned a full or a 1/2 paid bid through winning any of the FFWCT events or sanctioned events, you will have access to priority registration from August 7th-August 14th. The team captain will receive a Paid Bid Registration Code by email, which you will use to register your team during this priority registration week. Once you have registered and held your spot with a $50 deposit, your paid bid amount will be applied to your registration.
If you have a half or partial paid bid, you will still have a balance that will need to be paid by November 1st to secure your spot in the World Championships.

For teams with paid bids, we strongly encourage you to book your hotels or housing through our registration so you get the best deals possible.

Schedule Requests

We do not take schedule requests here at FFWCT. We have pre-made schedule blocks that you can find by scrolling down below, so you can see what time which formats play to avoid schedule conflicts.

You can also impact your first games start time by selecting a better spot during the draft during media night.

SCHEDULE BLOCKS

** ALL ADULT FORMATS WILL PLAY FRIDAY & SATURDAY POOL PLAY, NO EXCEPTIONS **

The graphic below lays out which divisions will and will not overlap. The top 1/2 shows the morning block, and some divisions we are guaranteeing will not overlap even within the block. The afternoon block will not conflict with the morning block AT ALL and also has some formats that won’t overlap within the block as represented in the graphic.

PLAY MULTIPLE STYLES

We guarantee scheduling to not conflict between the Morning and Afternoon Blocks.  You are guaranteed to be able to play in at least one format in each block, allowing you to play on multiple teams.

You may NOT play in more than one division of a single format. i.e. If you are on a roster for 4v4 PRO, you may not play in 4v4 Comp or Rec, but you could play in 5v5 Non-Contact Rec in a different format. You CAN however play in an age-restricted format, such as 5v5 U24 or O35 along with one other open division of that style.
