What's This?

Battle Galveston will be tons of fun, but here are five other great things to do on the Island when you’re not pulling flags.  If you haven’t been to Galveston Island lately, you need to get there now and this weekend’s tournament is a great opportunity to play and have fun in the sun!

1. Bon Temps Rouler Cajun Throwdown

Did somebody say, “All you can eat?!?”  No matter how you pronounce it, you won’t want to miss the Inaugural Bon Temps Rouler Cajun Throwdown.  This Louisiana inspired two-day festival lines up perfectly with Battle Galveston, taking place on April 26-27, 2019.  All the fun happens at Tin Cup’s Caddy Shack on Stewart Road. From all you can eat shrimp and crawfish, to a dream lineup of Cajun artists, plus Louisiana’s own Billboard Country Chart topper Frank Foster. This tribute to all things Cajun will be fun for the whole family. Get tickets here >>

2. Moody Gardens

Speaking of family fun, Moody Gardens will put your entire crew in a good mood!  Check out the Aquarium Pyramid before heading to the Reef Rescue Virtual Reality Experience. And the kiddos will love the Rainforest Pyramid.  It’s easy to see, Moody Gardens is not just another day at the beach. Today Moody Gardens is one of the premier attractions in the entire Southwest.

3. Pleasure Pier

Pleasure Pier is one of the few spots in the world that has this many rides over the water. You’ll be flying over guests on the Pier, soaring over the Gulf of Mexico and anticipating your next ride. For decades, the historic Pleasure Pier served as a tourism catalyst for Galveston’s Seawall Boulevard and the Texas Gulf Coast. More than 40 years after the original Pleasure Pier was destroyed by Hurricane Carla, Landry’s has transformed the Pleasure Pier into a world-class amusement park for all ages.

4. Galveston State Park

A “Top 5” in our Top 5!  The Galveston Island State Park was named one of the top 5 “Best Gulf Coast Beaches” by Travel Channel in 2013. The park offers a quiet oasis on the island’s West End where visitors can explore the Gulf of Mexico or Galveston Bay. Families can enjoy kayak tours, beach and surf explorations, bird walks, nature field trips, and fishing clinics at no cost.

5. Schlitterbahn Waterpark Galveston

A one-mile river connects three distinct sections of Schlitterbahn in Galveston. The water park is home to four high thrill speed slides including Rohr!, Cliffhanger, and the immersive Screaming Serpents body slide. Surfenburg has raft rides and water coasters with great picnic pavilions and the Tiki Tikes Kids Area for kids of all ages. The world’s TALLEST water coaster MASSIV Monster Blaster can be found in Blastenhoff with a wave pool – Shipwreck Harbor, and a swim up bar.

But Wait There’s More!  Bonus Good Times in Galveston.

6. Food. Crazy Great Food.

The chance to consume heaps of fresh seafood is a given in Galveston. But the island’s restaurant and beverage scene, is also surging with an array of new foodie delights, from steak houses and taco stands to coffee bars and daiquiri shacks, giving visitors plenty of mouth-watering options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

7. Great Golf Almighty! Golf at Galveston Country Club

Swing away at the oldest country club in Texas!  Located on Stewart Road on West Galveston Island, Galveston Country Club’s facilities are vibrant and beautiful. The course is located between the Gulf and the Bay, surrounded by Pirate’s Beach community. Essentially, this is a private club, but hotel guests and visitors may play golf and enjoy the restaurant facilities while visiting Galveston.

8. Haunted Mayfield Manor

Haunted Mayfield Manor is the home of Dr. Horace Mayfield, once a respected doctor, upcoming community leader, and son of a prominent physician in Galveston. It is said that witnessing the death and destruction of the great storm – together with his own personal loss – drove the doctor insane. His madness continues to this day as he tries to recoup his losses and continue his research. You are invited to participate in that ongoing research.

9. Galveston Water Adventures

Galveston Water Adventures offers an adrenaline-filled rush with its custom-built jet boat ride on board the SPINTIME, along with eco-tours and sunset cruises on board the CRUISE N TIME, and private events.
